３０日後日本に引っ越しますから今週日本の大使館に行かないといけなかった。

場合によって違いますだけど、日本のビザをもらうように、まず日本ではCOEとうい書類をまらわなくてはいけません。２月に名古屋では僕の家族が僕にCOE記入をしてくれました。二週間半後もらいました。とても早かったです。COEをもらってから近くの日本の大使館に行かなくてはいけませんからビザを願い出なくてはいけません。

今週、妻と一緒にニューヨークの日本の大使館に行きました。春は暖かいはずですが最近めちゃ寒かったです。寒い度は別として楽しかったです。大使館ではCOEを出すのは早くて簡単でした。来週、ビザを取りに行けます。

妻と初めてデートの記念日ですから大使館の後で一緒に初めてデートのレストランに行きました。Chiliという中国風のレストランです。三年前に出会って一目惚れでした。Chiliではデートの同じテーブルで座って同じ食事を食べました。僕が思ったとおりにめちゃ美味しかったです。僕達の好きな食べ物は辛いエビです。

幸せな記念日でした。来週ビザをもらうのは待ち遠しいです。

If you’ve found this page, chances are you’re interested in obtaining a visa to live in Japan. While there are several types of Japanese visas, my experience specifically relates to the Spouse Visa.

Every person’s situation may differ slightly, but for me, the process of obtaining a Japanese Spouse Visa was fairly straightforward. The first step was completing the paperwork for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)—a required document for most long-term visas in Japan. In February, with help from my wife, we completed the forms, and her family in Nagoya submitted the COE application on my behalf. Surprisingly, the COE was approved and delivered to their home in just two and a half weeks, which is considered very fast.

Once they received the COE, they mailed it to me in the U.S. I then brought it to the Japanese embassy to apply for the visa itself. This step involved filling out a single form and submitting it along with the original COE. About five days later, I had my 3-Year Spouse Visa in hand.

While living in Japan, I do plan to obtain Permanent Residency as soon as I’m eligible. I will make a new post and perhaps a video about that when I get to that point.
